Program Overview

We need more teachers. While the potential for impact is great, and the schedule is ideal, you become a teacher because you believe the best way to make the world a better place tomorrow, is by giving wings to the children of today. Our California School of Education’s Master’s in Education in Teaching degree program covers three main competencies: foundational, teaching, and research; and equips you with the knowledge, thought, and compassion it takes to teach in today’s world. A world in which it is our shared imperative to give every student an equal opportunity to be extraordinary.

Frequently Asked Questions

The career prospects for those wishing to become a teacher are strong as the nation’s population continues to rise at a relatively steady rate. While the growth percentages may not look extravagant at first glance—8% for high-school education, 8% for middle-school education, and 7% for elementary education—they represent a job pool of over 3,000,000 positions in the U.S. today, with another 200,000 added between now and 2026 and an exceptionally large workforce for our graduates of the MAE with Preliminary Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential program to enter in to.

Graduates of our MAE in Teaching degree program often already work as teachers at various levels including elementary, middle- and high-school levels. Some also do go on to teach at the collegiate levels as well, and the graduates of this program that go on to become teachers make up both the bulk of their post-school career paths, and their post-school career options, as this is relatively specialized degree. Other career options include becoming a school principal, a classroom materials creator, adult and secondary educator, policy maker, and a professional tutor.

Private and public scholarships can help you meet the cost of your education. Alliant International University is pleased to be able to offer a significant number of institutional scholarships to many of our students. Learn more about these scholarship opportunities at:

Additional Financial aid is available for those who qualify in the form of loans, grants, federal work study, and military aid. Learn more about your financial aid options here.

No, it does not, as there are still several exams you must take and pass in California, or in whichever state or region you wish to work, to be properly licensed as a teacher. However, this program will leave you well-prepared to take and pass these such examinations in the state of California and beyond.

The MAE in Teaching program is an 8-week term program and is open for enrollment during each of those respective enrollment periods. You can find a copy of our 2018-2019 8-week term academic calendar here.

The MAE in Teaching degree is a 30-credit program and takes a minimum of 1 year to complete.
