Alliant as a B-Corp
In 2015, Alliant International University became the first standalone university to be Certified as a Public Benefit institution. Since then, we have been recertified every three years. Through this certification, we bring transparency and accountability to fulfilling our role as a leader in social responsibility, and continue our commitment to not only be the best in the world, but the best for the world.
What is a B-Corp?
B-Corps are organizations, institutions, and companies that provide a public benefit and embrace the highest levels of commitment to social responsibility. Every three years, B Corps are certified to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
“Our commitment to social responsibility means nothing without action and accountability. Through our public benefit certification, we bring transparency and accountability to our efforts, and with every report and certification process, we gain valuable data and insights which help us make an even greater social impact year after year.”
How we live up to our role as a B-Corp
Alliant was named as a 2019 "Best For The World" in Governance honoree by B Lab
Transparency is a key tenet of our administrative philosophy. Through open communication, quarterly “university update” meetings, and frequent Q&A and town hall sessions, Alliant has gone above and beyond in bringing transparency to our governance.
Inclusivity is at the heart of our guiding values, and that includes inclusive decision-making. All Alliant stakeholders, including faculty and staff, are immersed in the decision-making processes that determine our institutional direction.
Faculty and Staff
Alliant has re-committed to inclusive excellence by launching the Alliant Board of Trustees Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
In 2020, faculty, staff, and administrators all worked together to create the Alliant MAP, our COVID-19 Mitigation Action Plan to safeguard the health and well-being of the Alliant community during the global health crisis while exploring innovative ways to plan to an eventual return to campus.
Each year, Alliant hosts the “Alliant makes a Difference Day” which provides paid time off for employees to volunteer in their communities through a cause they believe in.
Alliant has created a public benefit committee, dedicated to creating ideas to help Alliant reduce its energy footprint on each campus
Alliant’s physical footprint is changing. Campus sizes have been modified to fit the needs of students that attend in-person or remotely, which has reduced the amount of energy needed. Additionally, new construction on other campuses are in line with green building standards and all policies and procedures around building adhere to environmental standards.
Alliant promotes the use of public transportation and has installed electric vehicle charging ports to encourage the use of electric vehicles and reduce emissions.
Alliant students, faculty, and staff contribute many service hours to our communities every year
We have an institutional history rooted in social justice and through initiatives like our Asylum Immigration Clinic and organizations like the Rockway Institute of LGBT studies, we continue our legacy of service to underrepresented and marginalized communities.
Alliant has launched the Social Impact Committee to expand our work in cause-driven efforts and initiatives, prioritizing social and environmental commitments and building upon the impact our community has made over the past century.
Alliant has launched a new student experience team to ensure our students receive cross-disciplinary and holistic support during their educational journey
AlumniFire has been created to focus on Alliant’s alumni and current students. The new platform allows alumni from all generations and schools to network and re-engage with the University. Alliant has also formed an Alumni Advisory Board to help provide input to the direction of the University.
Alliant is committed to providing an inclusive environment for students to thrive. Ongoing efforts include offering special training sessions for faculty, staff, and students to foster an open exchange around current topics, and the creation of Alliant scholarships for students in under-represented groups.
Why we decided to become a B-Corp
Our vision is an inclusive world empowered by Alliant alumni. We believe that education is the great equalizer and one of the most powerful tools at our disposal, but it is only when education is paired with purpose that we bear witness to its true power. At Alliant, we pride ourselves in preparing generations of students and alumni to translate their education into public benefit, service to their communities, and lasting impact. That is why we became a certified as a B Corp, and this is why we take immense pride in continuing our legacy as a certified Public Benefit Institution.
