History and Legacy

At Alliant University, prioritizing inclusion isn’t a reaction to mainstream acceptance or industry trends, and its importance hasn’t diminished under external scrutiny and pressure.

Instead, pioneering multicultural curriculum across disciplines and advocating for those who face barriers to higher education—working adults, first-generation students, multicultural learners, online students, veterans, and more—has been at the root of who we are since our beginnings as Balboa Law School in 1924.

And while Inclusion is the “I” in Alliant’s IMPACT values, it goes beyond a mere mission statement. Explore this page to see how it’s something our students, faculty, staff, and alumni intentionally co-create every day.

Stories of Belonging

Meet the people who make inclusion real.

  • Preeti

“As a first-generation college student, I take great pride in being the first in my family to pursue graduate studies. As a proud Punjabi Sikh, I am deeply committed to addressing mental health challenges within the Indian community. I believe that cultural barriers can often prevent individuals from seeking the help they need, and I aim to be part of the solution.”

  • Lawrence

“As a board member at Alliant, I view the world through a lens that is accepting, inclusive, and welcoming, and that allows the people around me to experience their lives and be themselves without any judgment coming from my direction.”

  • Lionel

“When we talk about international students, there’s a tendency to put them in one group, and they are not, because they come from different countries. They may even come from the same country but from different ethnic groups, tribes, or caste systems.”

  • Rhoda

“On the San Francisco campus, we have graduated over 100 students with disabilities. I hope part of my legacy is that each of those goes out as a professional with a disability and starts to change the face of psychology.”

  • Daniel

“Being born deaf, I understand the significant importance of guidance, self-acceptance, authenticity, and communicating what is needed to achieve goals. I feel truly welcomed and valued in Alliant’s community.”
