The MSIST is a STEM program designed to provide you with the technical and management skills and advanced analytics tools you need to succeed. As part of the MSIST program, you’ll have the opportunity to sharpen and exhibit your skills in our annual Hack Day team events, where you’ll be challenged to rapidly prototype, implement, and deploy innovative applications and programs. The products that you produce during the course of this hackathon can then be used to build your portfolio and illustrate your ability to work under pressure.

As the world moves towards a more connected future, the limitations of IPv4 are becoming increasingly apparent. Many forward-thinking organizations are already leading the way by adopting dual stack support for both IPv6 and IPv4. Despite the cost and challenges, transitioning to dual stack support is a critical, necessary measure to ensure compatibility and security during this temporary stage. Until IPv4 is fully phased out, organizations remain exposed to costly vulnerabilities like ARP spoofing, Man-in-the-Middle attacks, IP spoofing, network reconnaissance, and broadcast attacks.

With this concentration offered at our San Diego campus, you can equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to protect your organization and navigate the complexities of dual stack support.

Led by Dr. Shams Al Ajwari who is accredited to deliver training for ISACA’s Certificate Exam in Cybersecurity Fundamentals. This accreditation is recognized by the APMG Quality Management System, indicating expertise and alignment with APMG’s high standards for trainers and facilitators.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

MSIST students are required to participate in curricular practical training as part of their experiential learning throughout the program. Practical training is intended to develop professional and applied practice related skills and expertise in the student’s program through a variety of work and learning experiences which could involve supervised practical training and/or applied client projects. This is required throughout the academic program from start on Day 1 to program completion. Domestic students can contact the CSML Professional Development (CPD) Coordinator directly for guidance. International students must apply for authorization for Curricular Practical Training to the Designated School Official (DSO).

CSML CPT Application Process for International Students

1. Obtain a job offer letter from your employer. The offer letter needs the following: 
   1. To be on company letterhead  
   2. Start and end date. (For example: CPT start date is 10/17/22, End date is 08/20/2023) 
   3. Include specific duties to perform, office location, direct supervisor name and contact number. 
   4. State that it is a part-time position 
   5. Include the following statement: “employer agrees to cooperate with the school in achieving the curricular purposes of the employment/training” 
2. Complete the Application for CPT and the Advisor Verification Form for CPT. These forms are located on the student portal:  https://alliantintluni.sharepoint.com/sites/IntlStudent/SitePages/International-Forms.aspx 
3. Email your offer letter and the 2 forms to your Program Director/Faculty Advisor at Alliant. 
4. Once they have signed the forms, please follow up and email ISSO@alliant.edu.  The DSO is the one who will give you the authorization to start working. 
5. Also, if it is your first time in the USA, you will need to go to the Social Security Administration office to obtain a social security number, this process can take 2 or more weeks. Your employer will need your social security number for you to work. So please start the process as soon as possible. What kind of job can I expect to get with this graduate degree?

The information systems technology program leans toward practical and theoretical knowledge in fields such as database management and cyber security. This type of education MSIST program develops your critical thinking, data science literacy, and prepares you for success across different fields. Graduates are well-prepared for job positions where expertise in information security management plays a big role such as a data scientist or a chief information security officer among many others. But the IT department is not the only business area  to critically employ these tech skills. Marketing, finance, human resources, accounting, business intelligence and strategy, business analytics, operations are examples which all need and use the skills you’ll develop in this graduate program. How long does it take to complete the MSIST degree program?

The MS in information system technology program is 33 units and takes a minimum of 18 months to complete. The school business team and program coordinator will guide you with your educational goals.
