Master of Arts in Education in School Psychology with PPS Credential
It takes a village. It may be a cliché in some areas, but not in education. Where understaffed schools and overwhelmed teachers are the new norms, you’re needed more than ever.
Alliant International University and the California School of Education have a program to help you become the solution in schools. With the Master of Arts in Education in School Psychology with PPS Credential, you will be prepared to fulfill an important role: the guiding light during one of the most formative educational journeys.
Through coursework in safety, intervention, prevention, and behavior, you’ll be able to spot the signs of discord. Courses in development, collaboration, counseling, and management will give you the keys to unlock the solutions. And direct experience from internships, seminars, and practicum give you the chance to turn theory into action.
Throughout it all, your time at Alliant will reinforce an important belief: that the differences we’re each made of are truly what makes us all one. And it’s up to you to ensure every student has the chance to thrive.
School Psychologist, Defined
What exactly does a school psychologist do? What’s the difference between a school psychologist and school counselor? What will you do on a day-to-day basis?
In broad strokes, here’s what school psychologists do:
Improve. You will be able to light the fire of passion for education in the hearts of students. By creating individualized instruction plans for students, you can ensure that each student receives the specialized education that’s right for them, improve classroom experiences, and analyze your findings to create better school systems.
Guide. Through community service coordination, classroom assessments, navigation of special education processes, and educational intervention plans, you help guide students and families toward a more enriching school experience.
Focus. Your student’s life unfolds more often at home than in the classroom. But they bring that with them to every class. Your attention will rest on not just their education, but what personal issues they face outside the hallways. In fact, inclusion of the family or friends who are impacting the student’s life. Ultimately, you are the person who gets that student through both lessons in the classroom – and in life.
A Guided Internship
At Alliant, your internship is a vital part of your education. With us, you’re not alone in this endeavor. Here, you’ll have support every step of the way.
Helping You Help Yourself. We have connections and strong relationships in the education community to help you get your foot in the door. These partnerships foster opportunities for you to network with local school districts and industry leaders, allowing you to build relationships and create prospects.
Online School Psychology Hybrid Program. Coursework for this degree program is offered online with a required residency at the following California campus locations: San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, and Irvine.
Creating a System of Support. The MAE in School Psychology degree program requires 1200 hours of internship. That’s a lot of time. But in each minute of every hour, know you have more than one person looking out for you. You’ll have individual mentorship from a faculty member whose job it is to coach you, guide you, and be a sounding board for ideas. You’ll also have an in-field supervisor whose job it is to teach you. They’ll complete a midterm progress report, so you can correct course or keep steady. At the end, they’ll provide a final evaluation to give insight into your progress.
A Path for All
Already have a master’s degree in the psychology, counseling, or education fields but want to become a credentialed California school psychologist?
