Murray Galinson, Ph.D., a 1976 alumnus of USIU, and an important and influential leader and philanthropist in the San Diego community passed away on January 3, 2013. It is a huge loss to the community and he will be greatly missed. Read Dr. Galinson’s full obituary.

Rohinton Bhandari, assistant vice president for budgeting, financial planning and analysis has left Alliant to pursue other opportunities. On behalf of President Cox and the President’s Steering Committee, Provost Russ Newman expressed gratitude to Rohinton for his nearly nine years of service to the University. He was a key member of the finance team during a critical period for the University.

Chief Human Resources Officer, Kristina Combs, has decided to pursue other career opportunities. Additionally, HR Coordinator Dolores Brown’s appointment with Alliant has reached its conclusion. The remaining HR team has a solid transition plan in place while the search begins for a new Human Resources Chief:

  • Shawn Hampton, currently the associate director of human resources, is now appointed as Interim Director of HR Operations. Her role will be to oversee HR functions and ensure smooth operations.   • Tami House, senior policy and project analyst will take on the processing of personnel action notices (PANs) related to new hires or changes in staffing. Tami may be reached at (415) 955- 2045 or; until further notification, please transmit completed PANs for processing to Tami.
  • During this transition period, Jennifer Wilson, vice president for administration & general counsel will handle the following HR related areas. Please contact her directly for advice, counsel and action on employee visa applications (and processing), union relations and investigations.

Dr. David Felsen, international relations faculty program coordinator, left Alliant International University as of January 30, 2013. CSML is disappointed to lose Dr. Felsen’s global perspective and vast experience, but is very excited for him to be offered a fantastic opportunity creating an international program for a university in Florida. Dr. Saba Ozyurt will continue as faculty program coordinator of undergraduate programs and will have an even stronger involvement with the International Relations master’s program.

Andy Morgan has resigned from his position as senior buyer effective December 31, 2012 and is headed back to his home state of Montana. CFO Jeanine Hawk would like to take this opportunity to express her appreciation for Andy’s contributions and hard work on behalf of Alliant over the years he served as the senior buyer.

After nearly five years of service, Monica Perea has tendered her resignation and will be leaving Alliant on February 22, 2013. As Dr. John Kantor reflected, “In her role as academic advisor and program coordinator for the OP programs, she has been a steady rock and will be greatly missed. Her ability to keep the program faculty and students in line throughout the many changes during the past few years (whether we liked it or not) has been invaluable. Students have a special relationship with her, often being a sounding board, therapist, and friend to all. She will be missed!”

Student Affairs Representative Adam Kasarda will temporarily fill-in the position. Adam already works for the university and will take on the job as an extra assignment, so students are asked to please be patient if issues are not addressed immediately. Malvin Agno has been appointed as Alliant’s new buyer, effective December 17, 2012. In his new position, Malvin will be responsible for all purchasing functions including purchase orders, request for proposals and contract negotiation. Malvin’s professional background includes more than 12 years of experience in purchasing, including the last three at the University of California San Francisco.

Lisa Delmar-Edmonds, system-wide credentials analyst for CSOE, transferred from the San Francisco campus to the Irvine campus in February. She maintains her current position with CSOE.

The search for a new Director of Campus Services (DCS) in San Diego is underway, but is not likely to be completed until well into the new year. Dr. Ramona Kunard has agreed to step in on a temporary basis to oversee the San Diego service centers, and to advise the administration on how to improve operations. Dr. Kunard was the dean of arts and sciences at USIU for many years, and later served as vice president for student affairs and academic liaison for Alliant until her retirement in 2006. She now serves as special assistant to the president for a period of 60 to 90 days, which began on January 2, 2013.

Meanwhile, Acting DCS Alison Lobus has stepped down from that position as of December 31, 2012. Dr. Cox expressed his appreciation to Alison for leading the academic and student service centers for the past six months during a very challenging time. Alison remains director for career services and is available to assist students in M-8.

Marina Shevyakova has been appointed as Alliant’s new associate vice president of finance/controller, effective December 3, 2012. In her new position, Marina will assume all controller duties in addition to providing leadership over administrative budgeting and reporting. She holds an MBA from Regis University in Denver, CO, and her professional background in non-profit education includes almost 10 years of progressive responsibility and experience at Regis University, including as the interim manager of accounting and the manager of university budget.
