ILA San Diego Conference: Conscious Leading for Global Change Oct 30-Nov 2, 2014
The International Leadership Association is holding its annual global conference at the end of October in San Diego, which presents a rare opportunity for Alliant OP and OD students and alums who live in the area, since last year it was far away in Montreal and next year it will be in Barcelona. The theme this year is Conscious Leading for Global Change: Emergence of our Collective Realities. Since Alliant is a member school, graduate students receive discounted membership of $40/year. This is an opportunity for students to meet in person many of the scholars whose books they read, as well as to network with others who share their interests.
Keynote speakers this year are A.T. Ariyaratne, leader and spiritual guide of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, Otto Scharmer, vice chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on New Leadership Models, and Connie Matsui, vice chair of the San Diego Foundation. The Conference program can be browsed online.
Several members of the Alliant community are presenting their work. Kathryn Goldman Schuyler will co-facilitate a session on “Connecting Inner Transformation as a Leader to Corporate and Societal Change” with Otto Scharmer after his keynote on Saturday, and will convene a workshop with the contributors to her ILA book Leading with Spirit, Presence, and Authenticity on Sunday. Bernardo Ferdman is presenting a paper on “The Practice of Inclusion in Diverse Organizations: Exploring the Key Role of Leadership” in a round-table on Friday. In addition, students Natika Chaiyanupong and Cindy Bolf will be sharing their research.
