The Alliant student teaching program in California allows aspiring teachers to earn a K–12 California preliminary single subject teaching credential or multiple subject teaching credential through a cohort-model that blends online coursework, mentoring, and supervised instructional experiences within a classroom.
Through the student teaching option, you will gain a deeper understanding of pedagogy and best practices in education and put that knowledge to use as a student teacher under the guidance of an experienced educator and the supportive coaching of an Alliant field supervisor.
Alliant has prepared hundreds of California teachers for effective, rewarding, and enduring careers serving the state’s diverse student populations. Let us help you become the person who can have a lasting impact on the next generation.
Program Overview
Under the student teaching option, you’ll participate in an unpaid student teaching experience while simultaneously taking online courses to earn your California teacher credential. Once completed, you will be fully prepared to pursue your preliminary California teaching credential and lead your own K–12 classroom.
The student teaching program is delivered over a series of terms, including:
- Two eight-week terms of practicum
- 120 hours of classroom observation
- Two eight-week terms of students teaching in two different grade levels, under the guidance of an experienced teacher
With the student teaching option, you’ll gain experience in at least two grade levels while assuming total teaching responsibility for at least two full weeks during each student teaching placement. During your placement, you’ll receive mentorship and support through classroom observations and coaching sessions conducted by a designated Alliant field supervisor.
