The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (Office of DEI) serves to guide and support the university’s key strategic initiatives related to inclusive excellence. The office is led by a Director and Associate Director, serve as advisors in supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives. The Director also serves as a member of the President's Cabinet, Academic Council, and has an indirect reporting line to the Board of Director’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
The Office of DEI emerged from an extensive transition and transformation of elevating the initial International-Multicultural Education, Research, Intervention, and Training (I-MERIT) training initiative. The I-MERIT committee remains an important foundation for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The system-wide I-MERIT committee is led by staff and faculty chairs from each campus who lead important projects through service on one of three sub-committees.
- Feedback and Assessment
- Training and Development
- Events and Programming
The purpose of these sub-committees is to create an environment where all are welcome and can thrive academically and professionally.
Board of Trustees Committee and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Through the committee, Alliant’s Board of Trustees is provided a view into all key elements of the university’s operations and activities; with a focus on DEI as a strategic asset as well as an operational and educational imperative.
