The San Diego Student Government Association (SD-SGA) would like to pause and appreciate one of the institution’s most outstanding leaders and a cornerstone at Alliant International University -- Dr. Michael Pittenger -- for his contributions to the San Diego campus. Dr. Pittenger, or Mike, as he prefers to be called, has been a part of Alliant since the day the institution was formed, and is, an all-around good person. He has repeatedly gone out of his way for anyone needing help, especially students. While Mike still works on the San Diego campus, he is getting ready for retirement, and the SD-SGA would like to make his name a permanent fixture there. On Monday, February 11, 2013, the SGA announced the Doctor Michael Pittenger Community Engagement Award. This award is meant to acknowledge students who exemplify all that Mike does: advocate for those who need it most; invest in the campus, and broader community; and (most importantly) love people, education, learning and service.
