Dr. Jei Africa

Alliant International University and California School of Professional Psychology alumnus Dr. Jei Africa was recently granted the 2015 Distinguished Humanitarian Award by the California Psychological Association. This award honors a person whose voluntary and career efforts have directly and significantly improved the quality of life for a broad range and large number of persons in our society. The award is intended to highlight members of the psychology profession who transcend guild interests.

Dr. Africa will be honored for his achievements during the Open Plenary Session at the 2015 CPA Convention on Friday, April 24, 2015.

He is director of the office of diversity and equity at the San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS), where he has been a leader and advocate in promoting social justice and health equity. He helped create the Office of Diversity and Equity, establishing an infrastructure to strategically address diversity issues and help communicate the commitment of BHRS to promoting healthy communities.

Of his experience at Alliant, Jei has said, "The California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) provided me with wonderful opportunities to grow both professionally and personally. There were many brilliant teachers and mentors that challenged and inspired me to do my best. CSPP not only harnessed my clinical skills but also supported my strong sense of advocacy for others. I feel I am a better psychologist because of my CSPP experience."

Congratulations Dr. Africa for all of your achievements!
