Starting July 1, 2026, significant changes to federal student loans will take effect with reduced borrowing limits and lifetime caps as well as the elimination of the Graduate PLUS loan program.

The good news is, new students whose loans are disbursed by June 30, 2026, will be classified as “legacy” Title IV students and will keep access to Graduate PLUS loans and existing caps through June 2029, or the expected degree program completion date based on the enrollment agreement (whichever is shorter).
