Educational Leadership and Management

Program Overview

Few careers provide the profound level of civic engagement, emotional reward, and impact on the next generation as teaching, and few careers are as vital and valuable to society. If you’re interested in becoming part of the next generation of California teachers, prepared to work in early childhood education, elementary school, middle school, high school, or special education in your local school district, you can obtain your California teaching credential at the School of Education (SOE) at Alliant. Each credential type determines what you’re authorized to teach, and ultimately shapes your long-term teaching career in California.

From Credential to Classroom

California requires educators to complete approved educator preparation programs and meet all credentialing requirements set by the state. There are multiple pathways to a teaching credential, so you can choose what works best for your situation:

  • Traditional programs with student teaching
  • An intern program that allows you to begin teaching while completing your credential
  • Options for candidates who already hold a credential from another state

These flexible routes make it easier to earn your teaching credential and become a teacher in California.

Once you earn your credential, you’ll be qualified to pursue a wide range of teaching jobs across California schools.

With the state’s ongoing teacher shortage, your credential allows you to:

  • Find a teaching role in high-demand subject areas
  • Build a meaningful teaching career in California
  • Grow into leadership or specialized roles in different teaching environments

Over time, educators can also advance by meeting the requirements for a clear credential, further strengthening their long-term career prospects.
