Biography
Hello, my name is Dr. Kathleen (Kate) Kent, and I’m honored to join Alliant as a professor working with graduate students in psychology. With more than a decade of experience as a practicing School Psychologist, I bring a strong foundation in applied psychological services, particularly within school-based settings. I look forward to working closely with you as you prepare for professional roles in mental health, education, and research.
Since 2014, I have served in the Westminster School District, providing comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for students aged 2 to 15. My work has focused on the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), behavioral intervention plans, and 504 plans. I’ve also collaborated with educators, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success, while leading professional development initiatives within the district. These real-world experiences allow me to offer a practitioner’s perspective on the psychological principles and ethical considerations that shape our field.
My academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and a Masters and Doctorate from Alliant, as well as a range of professional development experiences in areas such as suicide prevention, crisis intervention, bullying prevention, and culturally responsive assessment practices. I’ve also completed ADOS-2 training, equipping me with tools to support students across diverse diagnostic profiles and learning needs.
I hope to create a collaborative, engaging learning environment where your clinical, academic, and research interests can grow. As graduate students, you’re preparing for meaningful work that will directly impact individuals and communities — my goal is to support that journey with insight, mentorship, and practical application. I look forward to learning alongside you and helping you bridge theory with practice in thoughtful and effective ways.
