David Petersen

Biography

David Petersen, MSN, RN, is an Assistant Professor at Alliant University School of Nursing and Health Sciences with 12 years of experience in nursing education. Professor Petersen brings experience in emergency and acute care nursing, nursing education, curriculum development, and NCLEX preparation and assessment. He has contributed to multiple editions of Elsevier’s Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination and developed nursing assessment and Next Generation NCLEX content. His professional interests include clinical judgment assessment and nursing education in pathophysiology, pharmacology, adult health, and Capstone courses within BSN and MSN prelicensure programs.

Scholarship & Contributions to the Field

Professor Petersen has served as a contributor and reviewer for multiple editions of Elsevier’s Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination and Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-PN Examination. His additional work with Elsevier has included adult health and pharmacology assessment content, Next Generation NCLEX unfolding case studies, adaptive quizzing items, and the review of nursing education resources.

Professor Petersen’s curriculum development work includes NCLEX integration, curriculum mapping, learning objective development, assessment design, and the development of classroom, clinical, simulation, and online learning experiences. He also serves as an NCLEX preparation coach, supporting prelicensure nursing students and nursing programs in preparation for licensure examinations.

His areas of expertise include nursing education and curriculum development, clinical judgment and assessment, NCLEX preparation, adult health and medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and emergency and acute care nursing education.
