Anne Spillane

Biography

Dr Anne Spillane received her doctorate from Columbia University in the area of Intellectual Disabilities and Autism. Dr Spillane oversees the Master of Arts in Education – Special Education, and Education Specialist Credential program. She has taught courses in special education on curriculum development, universal design for learning (UDL), evidence-based teaching practices, assessment, collaboration and conflict management, disability rights and law, literacy, behavior management, and assistive technology (AT) and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and extensive support needs.

Dr Spillane is a member of numerous organizations in Special Education, including on the California State Leadership Team for CEEDAR (Collaboration for Effective Educator Development Accountability and Reform), and CAPSE TED (California Association of Professors of Special Education – Teacher Education Division) as a board member. Additionally, she is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and TASH.

She has presented at numerous conferences, workshops, and webinars on autism spectrum disorders, abuse prevention for individuals with disabilities, evidence-based practices, positive behavior support, collaborating with families, aligning standards with evidence-based practices, curriculum and instruction, individuals with extensive support needs, and inclusion. As part of her CEEDAR work she organized a community of practice for educator preparation where she hosted experts in the field and presented on topics including high leverage practices (HLPs), performance assessment, traumatic-brain injury (TBI), support and inclusion of individuals with higher support needs, UDL, multiculturalism and special education, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development.
