The APA-accredited PsyD in clinical psychology degree program offered by the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in Los Angeles provides the advanced education and training needed to become a professional practitioner of health service psychology, with a focus in clinical psychology.

Emphasis Areas

The Los Angeles clinical PsyD degree program offers four emphasis areas that provide a specialized learning focus:

  • Family/child and couple emphasis (FACE)
  • Clinical health psychology emphasis (CHP)
  • Multicultural community-clinical psychology emphasis (MCCP)

Students who decide not to enter an emphasis area are considered multi-interest option (MIO) students

The California School of Professional Psychology clinical psychology PhD and PsyD programs are offered on the Fresno, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco Bay Area campuses. Each is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA).

The PsyD in Clinical Psychology doctoral program is designed to meetthe evolving needs of the field of clinical psychologyby preparing students to integrate psychological theory, research, and applying psychological principles in real-world clinical settings. Rooted in the practitioner-scholar model,the program preparesfuture professionals through advanced training, supervised clinicalexperiences, and a rigorous clinical internshipthat supports the practice of clinical psychology across a variety of settings, including community mental health agencies,counseling centers, hospitals, schools, and forensic settings. Faculty membersand training supervisors help students build knowledge with clinical application so they are ready to apply evidence-based approaches in graduate psychologyand professional practice. 

The doctor of psychology curriculum emphasizes inclusive and multicultural perspectives, and the program adheres to the standards of accreditation required for accredited status by the American Psychological Association. Students complete at least four years of full-time study, including supervised clinical and training experiences that support eligibility for licensure. Graduates who complete the doctoral degree in clinical psychology and required postdoctoral clinical training may become eligible to sit for licensure examination as psychologists, depending on state requirements.

Students and alumni often work in a variety of clinical settings and community mental health environments, demonstrating strong career outcomes as practitioner-scholar professionals.
