Our  International Counseling Psychology Master of Arts (MA) program is offered  at Alliant International University’s Mexico City campus. Students earn a United States-issued graduate degree in a dynamic international hub. Students benefit from the double advantage of an enriching experience and the chance to gain culturally competent practice modalities to help you assist diverse families in our global society.

The program is based on the principles of Liberation Social Psychology (la psicología social de la liberación), which was initiated by Salvadorian Jesuit Ignacio Martín-Baró. Training focuses on the development of both critical consciousness and solid clinical skills. Empowerment is both the means and the outcome of this educational format, with students learning how to be responsive to their communities’ needs.

Our program has a particular emphasis on applying psychological and systemic theories in counseling children, couples and families. Graduates of this program will be competent to address:

  • Family relationships
  • Couple conflict
  • Child and adolescent behavioral and emotional problems
  • Addictions and substance abuse
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Sexual abuse recovery
  • Anger management
  • Separation and divorce
  • Parent education and parenting skill development
  • Personal growth and life transitions
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Women’s and men’s issues
  • Premarital counseling
  • Body image/Self-esteem
  • Loss and grief issues
