Dr. Meghan Fagundes (she/they) is an Assistant Professor, Consultant, Clinical Supervisor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from San Diego, California. Since 2002, they have worked in community-based organizations, outpatient, residential and inpatient facilities, hospitals, and prison, offering clinical services to active-duty military and historically marginalized groups such as those with severe mental illness, co-occurring disorders, the LGBTQIA+ community, low-income and forensic populations. In addition to their appointment as Assistant Professor at Alliant International University, Dr. Fagundes is a supervising consultant at Clínicas de Salud del Pueblo, the first federally funded migrant healthcare facility in the US. In addition, Dr. Fagundes works in an inclusive and affirming private practice with focus on serving clients of racial, ethnic, sexual, gender, neuro and body diversity. Dr. Fagundes also consults nationally and internationally with organizations to provide supervision, trauma-informed care, and presentations on the neurobiology of trauma. Dr. Fagundes trained in MDMA assisted therapy through the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) education program and received certificates in ketamine and psychedelic assisted therapy as well as psychedelic medicine for end-of-life care through the Psychedelic Research and Training Institute (PRATI). They were formerly a facilitator in the year-long Psychedelic Assisted Therapy educational program at the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and are presently a facilitator for PRATI’s Psychedelic Medicine for End-of-Life training program. Dr. Fagundes has also been working in the field of forensic psychology since 2010. They were formerly the Director of Clinical Training at the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT), where they supervised Alliant practicum students and completed civil and criminal forensic assessments. For nearly a decade they provided treatment to youth with sexually abusive behavior and they currently provide clinical supervision to Alliant practicum students at a local treatment facility for such youth. Their research publications include studies of youth with sexually abusive behavior, and their TEDx presentation, “Dangerous Myths About Juvenile Sex Offenders” has been used at conferences, in classrooms, and in the media to address problematic stereotypes about this population. Dr. Fagundes is a member of APA, including APA Divisions 6 (Society for Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology) and 56 (Trauma Psychology), where they serve as Member-at Large (2026-2029) as well as a member of the Science Committee.
Dr. Fagundes specializes in integrative somatic trauma therapy, psychedelic assisted therapy, polyvagal theory, internal family systems, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), intergenerational, systemic, and complex trauma, forensic assessment, sexually abusive youth, social justice, liberation psychology, community-based mental health, and the LGBTQIA+ community. In the Clinical Psychology Psy.D. program at Alliant, Dr. Fagundes teaches courses in psychological assessment, cognitive and affective psychology, and behavioral neuroscience.
