CTEL and CLAD Certification Overview

If you are looking to earn your cross-cultural language and academic development (CLAD) certification, this online CTEL certification program can provide you with the education you need for a successful career as an English teacher.

Diversity and multiculturalism are at the core of our CTEL teaching credential programs which lead to CLAD certification. To be an expert level teacher, you’ll need to learn how to effectively teach children from many different backgrounds; that’s why the CTEL program and (CLAD) certificate is so important. These advanced level certifications authorize two types of instructions: instruction for English language development (ELD) and specifically designed academic instruction delivered in English (SDAIE).

  • English language development, which is also known as English as a second language (ESL) or teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), is mainly aimed to promote the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills of the student.
  • Specifically designed academic instruction delivered in English (SDAIE) is designed to increase the level of comprehensibility of the English language in any subject matter, such as math or social science.

For more detailed information, please refer to the CTC website.

With the CTEL certificate and CLAD program for California teacher candidates, you’ll learn to approach the challenges of teaching a diverse group of students with trained ease. This teaching credential can provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to teach the English language to individuals from a variety of different backgrounds.
