Organizational Psychology Programs

PSYCHOLOGY AT WORK

The organizational psychology graduate programs offered by the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University’s campuses in Fresno, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco prepare students for careers that focus on improving organizational and workplace effectiveness by addressing the needs of both the individual and the organization.

Our master’s and doctoral programs differ in emphasis across locations, but they all provide a powerful foundation for a professional career in organizational psychology.

BALANCING BUSINESS GOALS AND HUMAN NEEDS

Students learn to blend training in psychology and social sciences with business and organizational needs. Courses teach psychological and organizational theories, build consulting skills and develop research methodologies useful for diagnosing people and organizations.

Coursework covers:

  • Organizational and individual behavior
  • Organizational theories
  • Group dynamics
  • Human resources
  • Motivation
  • Organizational change
  • Leadership
  • Principles of organization and work design

MENTORSHIP BY REAL-WORLD EXPERTS

The Organizational Psychology program faculty brings a breadth of consulting experience and applied projects to the classroom, providing students with a range of practical experiences along with a strong foundation in theory and social science research.

FIVE PROGRAM FEATURES

1. Soft Skills for Hard Situations Our programs teach how to apply “soft” skills such as team-building, conflict resolution and assessment, using the latest analytical techniques. Students conduct fieldwork and research, and many students work in one of our consulting centers.

2. Meaningful Research Applied research courses provide a basic understanding of statistics and methodologies. Other research-oriented courses address specific content areas and investigative methods.

3. Consulting and Intervention Expertise Through coursework, team projects and field-based assignments, students become expert in consulting and intervention techniques appropriate to organizations.

4. Professional Development Advanced courses and seminars allow students to investigate their special interest areas, as well as to develop professional attitudes and an awareness and concern for ethics and issues.

5. Fieldwork and Internships Doctoral students spend at least one year participating in field placements or internships in business, non-profit and other organizational settings. Fieldwork is available for all students, including those in the master’s programs, through the campus-based consulting centers

FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP: ETHICS IN THE WORKPLACE

CSPP programs strongly emphasize ethical behavior in professional practice. Now Organizational Psychology Department faculty member, Dr. Rodney Lowman has contributed to the store of knowledge on the subject with “Ethics of Employee Selection,” an article co-authored with J. Lefkowitz, included in Handbook of Employee Selection, published by Psychology Press (2010).
