The Bachelor of Science in Psychology
For hundreds of years, the human focus on “self” remained almost exclusively within the physiological realm. Over the last few decades, that has changed.
California School of Professional Psychology faculty like Abraham Maslow, Viktor Frankl, Carl Rogers, and Igor Ansoff, who are considered psychological pioneers, are only a few of the names that ushered us into this great period of self-enlightenment and self-improvement. Students in the Bachelor of Science in Psychology Program at Alliant International University’s California School of Professional Psychology are embarking on a journey to further thought leadership and understanding in the field. A journey that enables them to continue the legacy of our psychological forefathers.
Through coursework built on a foundation of scientific study, you will discover the theories, research methods, and data analysis techniques that carried us to where we are today. You will be challenged to drive the progress we still need in the helping professions. A challenge for which you will be prepared through your extensive and thorough field training experiences. And at Alliant, you will do this all with a multicultural mindset. Because if we’ve learned nothing else over the years, it’s that individual stories demand to be heard.
A combination of classes, seminars, and hands-on field placements will prepare you for entering the helping fields as a counselor and technician within peer, mental health, substance abuse, and psychiatric settings. You will also be prepared to continue your education at the master’s and doctoral levels.
Ultimately, our emphasis on the unique nature of the mind, the societal complexities of mental health issues, and the achievement of our students and alumni in the communities they serve will prepare you to make a powerful and lasting impact.
At its core, our BS in Psychology Program is about immersion and growth. Field placements are an integral part of the curriculum. Placement sites include clinical, educational, forensic, hospital, and research settings.
These sites* include:
- East County Family Justice Center
- San Diego Center for Community Solutions
- San Diego County Probation Department
- San Diego Youth Services
- South Bay Community Services
- YWCA San Diego Becky’s House — an emergency shelter and transitional housing program
You’ll gain valuable experience that can only be found outside the classroom. Theory, data, cultural awareness – these are just some of the psychological practices you will apply in a real-world setting. Most importantly, field placement will enable you to grow. As a student, as a professional, as a caregiver, and as a human being.
