Steve Orma graduated in 2009 from the CSPP Clinical Psychology PsyD program in San Francisco. Following graduation, Dr. Orma completed a postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael, working on the Eating Disorders Team and co-leading the OCD group. As part of the Eating Disorders Team, Dr. Orma designed and ran an early recovery group for adults with anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder. It is there that he honed his specialties in anxiety and eating disorders.
Following licensure, Dr. Orma served as a staff psychologist at New Dawn Eating Disorders Recovery Center in Sausalito, working in their Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs, providing individual and group therapy and assessments. While at New Dawn, Dr. Orma designed several Cognitive Behavioral Therapy based groups, which focused on helping clients learn effective skills to decode their emotions, introspect, and cope better in their lives. He taught a Law and Ethics course at California State University, East Bay for their MFT program in 2011. Currently, Dr. Orma runs a private practice in Marin and San Francisco, specializing in anxiety and eating disorders.
For the last three years, Dr. Orma has been writing for Examiner.com as the “Bay Area Mental Health Examiner.” He has written on such topics as stress management, social anxiety, phobias, and body image. He also has his own blog, www.drorma.com, where he writes on a variety of topics from psychology and philosophy to politics. He has been interviewed several times by nationally syndicated radio psychologist, Dr. Ellen Kenner, discussing social anxiety in dating, stress management, understanding emotions, and unearned guilt. He was recently interviewed on KRON 4 News about eating disorders, and has also been featured in Women’s Health Magazine, Marin Magazine, San Francisco Brides Magazine, Yahoo, and MSNBC.com.
In the last year, Dr. Orma contributed to the book, “Your Mental Health Questions Answered,” as an expert on stress, and to the book, “Making Marriage a Success,” as an expert on marriage. He recently launched a “Tackling Test Anxiety” workshop for students and professionals readying to take the SAT/ACT, MCAT, LSAT, Bar Exam, and professional psychotherapist licensing exams. He has also been an active member of the CSPP Alumni LinkedIn Group for the past year.
