Master of Arts in Education in School Counseling with PPS Credential

They’re found at the crossroads of personal growth and unlimited potential. They make up the system that prevents the cracks. They’re a single individual who can impress upon hundreds.

Some call them school counselors. We call them heroes-because they answer the call to fill a vital role in our community. And it’s Alliant International University’s California School of Education that helps them meet the demand.

Through the Master of Arts in Education in School Counseling with PPS Credential, you can become a certified expert in giving each student the chance to succeed emotionally, mentally, and professionally. You’ll learn how to intervene through lessons in adolescent behavior and which methodologies to implement. You’ll be able to counsel, collaborate, and plan with students who face both external and internal struggles. You’ll give them the direction they need to make the big decisions for their future.

Through coursework and hands-on practicum work, yours will be a medley of understanding. You’ll help students better understand themselves and celebrate that which makes them unique – so they, too, can one day answer their own call.

As a school counselor, the difference you make in students’ lives may take years to manifest. But the impact you have will last a lifetime.

School Counselor, Defined

What, exactly, does a school counselor do? What are the limits of their role? What do they do on a daily basis?

Simply put, you are the beacon that brightens the path to success for each and every student.

Advocate. You are the voice of those who have not yet learned how to speak up for themselves. You work with teachers and faculty on students’ behalf to help them succeed with individualized programs and approaches. That means daily, weekly, or monthly meetings with students and staff to discuss needs and progress.

Serve. Through intervention and counseling plans, you will equip students with the healthy command of their emotions to make better decisions, handle challenges, manage learning disorders, and be present in class.

Prepare. You will help guide students in discovering their future plans and what it’s going to take for them to get there, like helping them choose courses and finding ways to get a head start on college.

A Hands-on Lesson in Diversity

At its core, Alliant’s MAEd in School Counseling program is about effect. In the first four semesters, we prepare you with lessons, in theory, methodology, and intervention techniques during afternoon and evening classes. In the last two semesters, you take what you learn and apply it in the field.

Our Master’s in School Counseling program is available in an online hybrid format, with on-ground components required for program completion, through our California campuses in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Irvine, and Fresno.

Over the course of 100 hours, you will complete assignments in peer counseling, personal and career assessments, school-based programs, community service programs, or in other settings. Shadow a school counselor, observe classroom instruction, attend district meetings. Immerse yourself. Have effect.

And, you’ll do this from a culturally sensitive perspective. So you are prepared to serve every student and family, no matter their needs, their challenges, or their life story.
