Three ESOL Course Levels
Alliant ensures that each student is placed at the appropriate English proficiency level for instruction and coursework through the administration of a placement exam and evaluation of their speaking abilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
The classes you will take in Alliant’s ESOL program will depend on your particular English-learning need, and which level of program you are taking. Regardless of program level, though, each student in this program will take courses in Integrated Skills, Listening & Speaking. Reading, and Writing & Grammar.
All students in the ESOL program take the Alliant International English Proficiency Test (IEPT) prior to the start of their ESOL classes. The Alliant IEPT is an admissions requirement for all international students who do not meet the TOEFL, IELTS, or other accepted standardized English exam requirement listed for their specific academic program. The Alliant International English Proficiency Test measures a student’s abilities in reading, grammar, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students take the Alliant IEPT exam prior to first-time registration and is offered on the San Diego campus during the orientation period each semester.
The ESOL program provides non-credit English language instruction which prepares students for their Alliant degree program. The length of time that a student takes ESOL courses is dependent on their English language needs. The typical length of time is between two and four 8-week terms.
