diversityThe World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) is organizing their 17th annual conference around the theme of “Educating for Democratic Governance and Global Citizenship.” It will take place from July 10-15, 2016 in Budapest, Hungary. The purpose of this conference is to inspire and engage educators throughout the world in an exploration of global education, focusing on the understanding of the working mechanisms of the world from global, holistic and multidisciplinary points of view.

“Educating for Democratic Governance and Global Citizenship” means that education could produce new types of world citizens who are equally sensitive for the challenges of humanity and planet earth, who understand the democratic values and also have competencies, knowledge and skills that enable them to make responsible decisions in their individual and public actions. Educating for democratic governance and global citizenship at every stage of life could be one potential answer for these challenges.

The sub-topics for each of these three major strands of the conference theme are: global education, environmental challenges, global development, social justice, civic engagement, human rights, climate and disaster resilience, health education, gender equality, women empowerment and peace building.

We invite you to submit a proposal for a paper or workshop presentation on the conference theme related to any of the following special interest areas of the WCCI: arts, culture, language, community development, early childhood, environmental concerns, ethics and values, global education, instructional technology, lifelong learning, peace education and women in education.

Proposal Guidelines

Papers and workshops pertaining to the sub-topics of the conference theme are welcome. The one-page, single-spaced abstract should include the following information:

  • Name, address, institutional affiliation, position and email
  • Title of paper or workshop
  • Special interest area
  • Abstract of the presentation (100 words or less)
  • Name of presenter(s), title, rank, institution, phone, and email address
  • Thirty word descriptions of your paper for the conference program

The deadline to submit a paper proposal is November 15, 2015. You will be notified of acceptance on February 29, 2016.
