The University of Illinois Counseling Center is accepting applications for the position of Media Communications Coordinator.  The successful candidate will join an energetic, diverse team of over 50 staff including clinicians, doctoral interns, Counseling Center professional staff, and administrative staff.  The Center is an APA accredited training site with doctoral interns, graduate assistants, undergraduate paraprofessionals, and practicum trainees. The Center’s mission is to provide culturally competent services to a diverse clientele presenting with a wide range of psychological, educational, social, and developmental concerns.

Primary Function
Developing and maintaining an online presence for Counseling Center services is paramount to this position. The successful candidate will plan and fulfill the Counseling Center’s overall communication and promotion efforts by developing strategies to increase and continually improve exposure to students, parents, faculty, and staff.  The person in this role will create, design, and produce camera-ready art for Counseling Center publications, electronic media, and related marketing functions.  This staff member will provide leadership and management of the Counseling Center’s media and systems services including but not limited to digital media, communications, and social media.  Projects will include print and web design for the Center.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and design a variety of print and online media including but not limited to brochures, direct mail, posters, displays, newspaper advertising, podcasts, vodcasts, content management, social media sites, and websites in support of the Counseling Center
2. Perform graphic design and project coordination throughout all stages in producing publications, electronic media and designs for various advertising applications
3. Develop creative marketing and promotional materials for a broad range of campus audiences using various media technologies
4. Maintain and manage programmatic digital communications initiatives, including but not limited to websites, social media accounts, and digital signage
5. Prepare digital art and necessary production for outside print vendors
6. Provide consultation and monitor online workshops offered to students
7. Measure and report on the effectiveness of communications and usage of media tools
8. Organize and maintain photo database, completed digital files and hard copy files
9. Other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in marketing, communications, or related field)

1. Skills in both print and web production, including expertise in the operation and support of a full range of graphic design and web creation software packages such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop
2. Three years’ experience in web design or development is preferred
3. Experience using web publishing tools and social media
4. Knowledge of current content management systems, web analytics software, graphic design software packages, HTML, DHTML, XML, ASP, CSS coding.  Other tools will be considered
5. Experience in a higher education setting is preferred

Starting date: May 16, 2014 or mutually acceptable date

Appointment Terms
12 months with 24 vacation days; full time regular position
