Post Doctoral Fellow in Clinical Health Psychology

WellStar Medical Group is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow in Clinical Health Psychology for group practice located in Marietta, approximately 25 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, GA. This will be a 12-month contract with pay and benefits.

Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology, obtained from a university accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Applicant must have already completed a 12-month APA-accredited internship (or will have completed by the time the contract begins).

Duties/Responsibilities: Provides health psychology services to patients in a large (5-hospital) health system. The Fellow will perform assessments, with an emphasis on pre-surgical bariatric evaluations, as well as other psychological evaluations to assist with differential diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Approximately 50% of the Fellow’s time will be allocated to testing, interpretation, and writing. The remainder of the Fellow’s time will encompass the carrying of a caseload of individual patients with various medical/psychiatric comorbidities and the planning and implementation of clinical research initiatives. Whereas 25-35% of clinical time will involve working to meet evaluation and treatment needs of our bariatric population, there also exists an opportunity to gain experience with other specialized patient cohorts (e.g. cardiac; COPD; sleep disorders). These training goals can be established at the onset of the fellowship, in alignment with the vision regarding expansion of the psychological services department.

To fulfill the scientist practitioner component of the fellowship, the Fellow will be tasked with developing a clinical-research project, which should be designed to evaluate outcomes that impact clinical quality and/or ways to enhance cost savings of the health system.
Apart from clinical and research responsibilities, the Fellow will participate in no less than one hour of weekly supervision with a licensed psychologist on staff, who meets the clinical supervision requirements of the state of Georgia.
