The Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC announces a one-year, full-time position for 2014-2015 in our APA Accredited Postdoctoral Residency Program in Clinical Psychology, with advanced training in the Special Emphasis Area of our: 

 Center of Excellence (COE) in Primary Care

The outpatient medical clinic at the medical center is truly interdisciplinary for all trainees.  The Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model has been fully implemented in this clinic since 2010.  Thus, there is an existing commitment to interdisciplinary care and training.   The LSCVAMC affords psychology Postdoctoral Residents to work side by side with the already assigned PGY 2 Clinical Pharmacy residents, Nurse Practitioner learners, Dietetic Interns, and PGY 1-3 Internal Medicine residents giving a unique and innovative training site for expanding their knowledge and skills in an evolving, complex primary care practice.

Clinical Health Psychology, Clinical Pharmacy, Internal Medicine, and Dietitian Learners work side-by-side in primary care medicine providing services in Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs) for Diabetes, Hypertension, Women’s Health, and Hyperlipidemia.  They also work together in a Preventive Medicine Clinic and the Women’s Health Clinic as well as a telephone clinic for patients struggling with treatment adherence. 

There are ample opportunities for the Resident to collaborate with COE staff in nonclinical venues as well.  These include attending or presenting in lecture series for the COE, internal medicine, clinical pharmacy, and staff meetings.  The Resident can also participate in interprofessional learner team quality improvement projects. Additionally, the Resident will participate in various committees such as the Health Promotion Disease Prevention (HPDP) Committee, Wellness Committee, Primary Care Counsel Meeting, and Bariatric Surgery Team Meetings. The Resident will also have the opportunity to attend Pain, PM&R, Medicine, and Psychiatry Grand Rounds.

Residents receive clinical experiential training, complete a research/scholarly project, and are provided with training in supervision of interns. Our training model is Practitioner-Scholar. Salary is $43,912.  Residency begins September, 2014.
