Will Work for Change: Critical Psychology in Support of Activists
Sat, Oct. 4, 2014 10am – 5pm (Snacks provided; lunch is off campus)
Counselors and therapists aim to help people participate more fully and meaningfully in their families, workplaces, and relationships.  But how can we support them beyond that level to challenge oppressive systems in their jobs and communities, or their encounter with issues such as climate change, violence, or poverty?  How to accompany them through despair, anger, burnout, interpersonal conflict, and fear, to help with courageous and effective action?  This participatory workshop provides an introduction to these dimensions of psychosocial work. 6.0 CEU

Tod Sloan, Ph.D., former national coordinator of Psychologists for Social Responsibility, is a leading proponent of the critical psychology perspective.  He is the author of Life Choices and Damaged Life: The Crisis of the Modern Psyche.  He is co-editor of the Journal for Social Action in Counseling and Psychology.
