Art and Community Building Event at Alliant San Diego
On Friday, May 15, Alliant San Diego and the Center for Integrative Psychology will present an event called “Arts for Change: Community Art Making, Its Practice and Possibilities.” Participants will be introduced to the latest philosophy, theory and practice in inter-modal expressive arts therapy. The subject matter will be explored in a lively, experiential manner through lecture, discourse and play in the arts. Participants will learn how art, play and ritual process bring change and growth in community. This event will be presented on by special guests Judith Greer Essex, Ph.D., and Wes Chester, M.A..
Judith Greer Essex is a pioneer in the art-based therapy movement, respected as an expert in the role of the body and expression in psychological integration. Trained as a dancer, Judith is a licensed marriage family therapist and a registered expressive arts therapist. She has taught movement, dance and psychology at SDSU, UIS, UCSD and Alliant University.
Wes Chester is an expressive arts therapist and co-director of the Expressive Arts Institute. He is a musician, poet, artist and author, who has worked in the mental health field since 1996. Wes specializes in healing the aesthetic relationship to nature and is a supportive and caring facilitator.
