SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- May 22, 2013 – More than 750 students from Alliant International University are graduating across its seven campuses with bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in the disciplines of psychology and mental health, education, business and management, international affairs, forensic studies and law.
Mexico City
The first commencement ceremony took place on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Alliant’s Mexico City campus. There, students received degrees in the disciplines of international business, counseling psychology, international affairs and education. Psychologist Margarita Tarragona, Ph.D. was the featured commencement speaker. Tarragona is a faculty member in the master´s in counseling program at the Universidad Iberoamericana, where she created and coordinates the diploma program in positive psychology. She also serves on the board of directors of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA).
San Diego
Commencement for San Diego and Irvine graduates is scheduled for Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel in San Diego. Degrees in business and management, psychology and mental health, forensic studies, international affairs, education and leadership will be conferred to students.
Sixteen students that received outstanding degree awards will be recognized, as well as recipients of the Dorothy L. Harris Award for Women, F. Joseph Mcguigan Research Award and James Chipps Memorial Scholarship. These graduates represent 28 countries, including Morocco, Thailand, Qatar, Germany, Zimbabwe, Romania and Japan.
Patricia Hsieh, Ed.D., president of San Diego Miramar College will be this year’s commencement speaker. As the first and the only female Asian college president in the San Diego area, Hsieh is very involved in the local Asian community. She is the 2006 Asian Heritage Award recipient and is a board member of the Asian Business Association.
Fresno
Students from the Fresno and Sacramento campuses will have their ceremony on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the New Exhibit Hall in the Fresno Convention Center. Degrees will be conferred in the areas of forensic studies, psychology and mental health, and education. Founding Faculty Member of the Fresno campus and clinical psychology Professor Ronald Teague, Ph.D., ABPP, will speak.
San Francisco
On Saturday, June 1, 2013, students from Alliant’s San Francisco campus, Sacramento campus couple and family therapy program and San Francisco Law School will cross the stage. This ceremony will be held at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, CA. Graduates will earn degrees in education, psychology and mental health, and law. The commencement speaker in San Francisco will be Renowned Psychologist Paul Ekman, Ph.D. Among his many awards and accolades, Ekman was named by the American Psychological Association as one of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century.
Los Angeles
The final commencement ceremony in California will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 in Los Angeles at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Students from this campus will earn graduate degrees in education, psychology and mental health and forensic studies. Clinical psychology Professor Jeff Tirengel, Psy.D. will speak at the LA commencement ceremony. An alumnus of CSPP, Tirengel now serves as a core faculty member in the LA program.
Additional groups of students from Alliant’s international programs in Hong Kong and Tokyo will hold commencement ceremonies in the fall.
