Councilmember Carl DeMaio to Speak at Alliant International University

SAN DIEGO, CA : City of San Diego Councilmember Carl DeMaio will be this year's keynote speaker at Alliant International University's Site Supervisors Appreciation Luncheon held on Friday, April 29, 2011.

The Site Supervisors Appreciation Luncheon is held to express gratitude to field placement supervisors of students in Alliant's organizational psychology (OP) programs -- a field combining psychology, social science, and business studies in efforts to improve workplace effectiveness. Alliant International University seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Students of all programs are required to complete an internship, practicum, or field placement in the business world as part of their curriculum.

"At Alliant, we strongly believe that students need the applied experience of a field placement as part of their formal education in order to become effective professionals," says Field Placement Director Jeanne Cherbeneau. "Site supervisors have the experience to provide direction and guidance to help fine-tune students' professional skills."

During DeMaio's extensive experience as a successful entrepreneur, businessman, and city council member makes him an ideal fit for this event. At the luncheon, he will reflect on the leadership principles effecting change management.

DeMaio developed an impressive resume prior to being elected as a city councilmember. He founded two multi-million dollar companies by the age of 30 -- the Performance Institute (PI) a nonpartisan private think tank, and the American Strategic Management Institute, a spin-off of PI focusing on improving corporate transparency, accountability and performance. He also spent five years on Capitol Hill working on budget reform and government oversight initiatives with members of Congress.
