At Alliant International University, we recognize many service members have gained knowledge and experience that can be applied to an academic curriculum. We will help you apply the maximum transfer credits possible to your Alliant degree program.
Alliant International University offers several opportunities to demonstrate non-traditional learning and will allow up to 90 units of coursework from 4 sources:
- Credit for Military ExperienceAdvanced Placement Examinations (AP Exams)
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
- Extension Courses
- Military Service
Credit is generally awarded for scores of 3, 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement Examination.
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Alliant International University awards transfer credit for military training and experience evaluated for college equivalency by the American Council on Education.
Undergraduate university level extension courses completed at a regionally accredited institution of higher learning can be considered for transfer credit. The extension course must be similar in content to a regular course offered. No more than 20 semester units of extension credit with at least an earned 2.0 (C) or better may be applied toward undergraduate degree requirements.
Credit for Military Experience
Up to 27 transfer credits may be earned through Military Experience. As a member of Service Members Opportunity Colleges (SOC), we have designed our transfer credit policy to minimize the loss of credit and avoid duplication of course work while maintaining the academic integrity and educational effectiveness of our programs.
Alliant International University considers both military service and military coursework for academic credit using the guidelines issued by the American Council on Education (ACE). We refer to the ACE “Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Services” when determining applicable transfer credit for military experience and training.
Veterans, active-duty personnel, Guard and Reservists applying for admission to Alliant International University may be granted academic credit on a case-by-case basis upon evaluation of official military transcripts. These include Sailor/Marine ACE Registry Transcript System (SMARTS), Army/ACE Registry Transcript System (AARTS), Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) and United States Coast Guard transcripts.
Course equivalencies and credit hours awarded for a particular Alliant degree are determined by our schools and/or academic departments. Credit hours may be awarded for specific courses toward degree requirements or as elective credit. The number of credit hours awarded will be determined by the school and/ or academic department.
