San Francisco - March 2, 2007
  — An Intercampus Lecture Series, developed by Alliant International University President Geoffrey Cox and Special Assistant to the President Dr. Ed Bourg, invites distinguished faculty members to speak at a campus different than their own. The goal is to share knowledge that might otherwise be primarily limited to a single campus, ultimately enriching the intellectual environment at each of Alliant's California campuses.

“It's really an effort to try to make both students and faculty aware of the fact that they’re part of a larger system,” said Dr. Cox. “There are incredible resources throughout the university and many people with common and overlapping interests. This is a way to create dialogues across campuses.”

Drs. Cox and Bourg empowered Alliant’s Student Government Associations (SGA) to select the professors to take part in the exchange. The speakers for each campus were chosen by the chairs of the student government at the respective campuses, based on their being distinguished faculty members that they would like to share with the other campus.

“This is a great honor for a faculty member. It’s an opportunity for them to showcase their work,” said Dr. Cox. Professors chosen to speak during the series will receive honoraria.

Dr. Eric Hickey, systemwide Director of the Center for Forensic Studies and based out of the Fresno campus has already agreed to speak at the San Francisco campus on the topic "Profiling Paraphiliacs: The Reality of Fantasy in Violent Sexual Predators" on March 23.

Dr. Rebecca Turner, who is located on the San Francisco campus, will be speaking at the Fresno campus on the topic "The Search for Success: What is Social Intelligence and How do People get it?" on May 2.  Dr. Turner is a professor in the PhD program in clinical psychology at CSPP, where she teaches social psychology and one of program’s core research seminars.

“I am very pleased the San Francisco SGA leaders chose me to do the lecture for the Fresno campus. I think the whole thing will be fun,” said Dr. Turner. "San Francisco is sharing with Fresno. Eric Hickey will be here in March and I'll go to Fresno. San Diego is exchanging with Mexico City.We receive honoraria, which is nice, and I think the whole thing will be fun. Plus, I've never been to Fresno!

Tim Beach, who is Special Projects Developer for Drs. Bourg and Cox, and a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology doctoral student at CSPP San Francisco, has helped to coordinate the series.
