Alliant Goldsmith Students and Alumnus Promoted by Fresno Police Department

Fresno, February 13, 2007  — On January, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer promoted Alliant International University alumnus Pat Farmer to Deputy Chief and Alliant doctoral students Keith Foster and Michael Reid to Deputy Chief and Captain, respectively.

Deputy Chief Keith Foster has served in the Fresno Police Department for over 20 years. As Commander of the Management Support Bureau he was responsible for recruitment, selection, hiring, and training of police personnel. In December 2006, he completed his course work for a Doctorate Degree in Organization Development from the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management and is currently working on his dissertation. Mr Foster will graduate with a PsyD in Organizational Development on June 2, 2007.

Deputy Chief Pat Farmer has served in the Fresno Police Department since 1985. Born and raised in Fresno, he received his Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Alliant in 2003. As Deputy Chief he will command the new Special Operations Division.

The PsyD in Organization Development is a program of the Division of Organizational Psychology at the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management in Fresno. This PsyD is the only program on the west coast to be accredited by the Organization Development Institute, and it is the only one of its kind in the United States.

“The organizational studies program at Alliant was truly outstanding. It allowed me to immediately apply what I learned in the classroom to the workplace,” said Farmer.

Reid, Farmer and Keith’s contributions to the Police Force and the Fresno community are numerous. In 2002, Foster served as the Chairman on the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Racial Profiling, which was responsible for the creating of a mandatory training program for all California Police Officers. Pat was selected as the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Officer of the Year and was awarded the Department’s Life Saving Medal with Valor. Both Keith and Pat exemplify Alliant’s emphasis on preparing students to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
