CSPP Prof Dr. Kevin O’Connor Elected to Third APA Fellowship: Division 12 Clinical Psychology

 

 

 

San Francisco – Sept. 1, 2006 -- Dr. Kevin John O’Connor, Professor in the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant, was recently named a Fellow in the Society of Clinical Psychology, Division 12 of the American Psychological Association (APA).

This distinction adds to previous honors: Dr. O’Connor already holds fellowship status in two APA Divisions: 29: Psychotherapy and 53: Society of Child and Adolescent Psychology.

Dr. O’Connor has taught, researched and lectured in hospitals, schools, treatment centers and clinics throughout California and North America, and internationally in Korea, Japan, the Netherlands Singapore, Kuwait, South Africa, Canada, the United Kingdom and Italy. His career has introduced play therapy to the profession of psychology and shed new light on the theories and practices of child psychology through his research, seminars, papers and novels.

Dr. O’Connor is an inexhaustible author who published six books, 12 book chapters and numerous articles about play therapy and child psychology. Dr. O’Connor’s most significant and influential books include “Play Therapy Primer,” now in its second edition, and “The Play Therapy Treatment Planning Workbook: An Ecosystem Model,” completed with Sue Ammen, PhD. O’Connor’s major publications have introduced new and innovative child psychology theories and practices to millions of readers, both student and teachers. Several of his books and papers are used nationwide in training professionals.

Dr. O’Connor has taught over 100 seminars and continuing education courses in the United States and internationally, over 80 of them focused on play therapy. Since founding the Association for Play Therapy (APT) along with Charles Schaefer in 1982, membership has grown from 20 to 5,000 with members in more than a half dozen countries. O’Connor served as APT’s President/Executive Director and newsletter editor from 1982 to 1997 and served on the Board of Directors until 2003.   

Dr. O’Connor is also Director of CSPP Clinical PsyD & PhD Programs at the Fresno Campus and serves as the Director/Coordinator for Ecosystemic Clinical Child Psychology Emphasis Area.

For the past 20 years Dr. O’Connor has taught courses in play therapy, supervised research and provided intensive clinical supervision. “I think I have made a significant contribution to the field of clinical child psychology to date,” said O’Connor. “And I am sure I am nowhere near the end of what I have to offer.”
