Agreement Makes it Easy for TransPacific Students in Hawaii to Come to Alliant
San Diego - September 6, 2006 -- Students at TransPacific Hawaii College in Honolulu will now find it easy to come to Alliant International University. Thanks to an agreement between the two institutions, qualified students of the two-year Honolulu-based school will receive fast-track admission for any semester, personalized support and mentorship and guaranteed housing. Alliant will also offer five $1500 transfer scholarships to TransPacific students annually. Students interested in continuing on in the MBA or MIBA program may receive preferential placement and a reduced number of course requirements. Upon arrival at Alliant University these students will see Honolulu’s multicultural mix of people mirrored by Alliant’s diverse faculty population and student body.
The agreement is rooted in similar goals and outlooks - both TransPacific and Alliant work to foster multicultural awareness and cultivate socially responsible students who will enrich the global community.
The MOU was signed by Geoff Cox, President of Alliant University, Rodney Lowman, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for Alliant University, Eric Gravenberg, Vice President of the Center for Undergraduate Education at Alliant University, Linda Swanson, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at Alliant University, John Norris, President of TransPacific Hawaii College, Donna Prather, Vice President for Academic Affairs at TransPacific College, and Shungo Kawanishi, Vice President for Global Affairs at TransPacific Hawaii College. “We are very pleased to welcome students from Transpacific to our campus, where they will add greatly to the excitement, diversity and quality of our undergraduate programs,” said President Geoff Cox. Alliant International University has been developing a strong international network with esteemed and highly regarded educational institutions for the purpose of knowledge transfer and collaborative research which, they believe, play a major role in the modern educational system. Alliant found a perfect partner in the TransPacific Hawaii College, which has built a reputation for multicultural awareness and rigorous preparation for transfer to a four-year university. TransPacific Hawaii College is experiencing a great deal of success because of the strength of its academic programs. All students are required to live in home-stays arranged through the college for the first year, in which they learn the customs of local and American families and English language practice. The college provides international students with the opportunity to earn an American associates in arts degree that prepares them for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Since Alliant has chosen to focus its undergraduate programs exclusively on transfer students, primarily from two-year colleges, their model fits wholly with the mission of Transpacific Hawaii College. Through its partnership with Alliant, students from TransPacific who enroll at Alliant will receive comprehensive support and mentorship from Alliant staff and faculty. Administrators and faculty at both institutions will explore additional collaborative opportunities to enhance student interest and retention through future joint programs.
