Oakland Psychological Service Center for CSPP Moves to Spacious New Offices

San Francisco – Oct. 2, 2006 -- The California School of Professional Psychology’s Psychological Services Center in Oakland, California has moved to a new 17th Street location. Staff, interns, trainees and clients are enjoying their new spacious setting, with the safety of a building security guard and the comfort of air conditioning.  Employees already feel the benefits of their new office. 

“This office creates a safe and comfortable work environment,” said PSC Director Dr. Eddie Chiu. “We’ve fostered a better work spirit through centralizing all the offices in the building.”

The Psychological Services Center (PSC) is an integral part of the clinical psychology training program at CSPP. Clinical services are provided by students and interns under the supervision of licensed clinical faculty. Through their work with PSC, students learn how to provide clinical services to an ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse client population.

Students receive individual and group onsite supervision in a variety of areas including child/parent clinical cases, in-home geriatric clients, disability evaluation, juvenile probation assessments, child protective services, family court service child custody evaluation, and hospital-based assessments. Programs also provide services for the treatment of anxiety disorders, domestic violence, and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

All PsyD students and the majority of PhD students in CSPP programs spend some portion of their practicum experience within the PSC, in addition to receiving professional training at other sites in the local area and, in their final year, at internship placements around the United States.

“All of our PSC staff and students feel so excited about the new site and continue our commitment in providing the training for the CSPP students and serving the mental health needs of residents in the Alameda County,” said Dr. Chiu.

An open house for the new PSC will be held in late October.
