CSPP alum elected President of the California Psychological Association

 
 

October 30, 2006 - Los Angeles, California –Dr. Miguel Gallardo, a California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) alum, has been elected President of the California Psychological Association (CPA).

Gallardo graduated from the Alliant’s CSPP’s Clinical PsyD Program in Los Angeles in 2001. His Doctoral Research Topic: A Culture Undiscovered: The Impact of Learning Disabilities on Racially and Ethnically Diverse Students, was a video project that intended to examine the interplay between culture and a learning disability diagnosis and has since received international distribution. Dr. Gallardo also co-founded the California Psychological Association of Graduate Students (CPAGS) out of CSPP-LA.

He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology and is heavily involved in the field of psychology, having established a strong presence among its many associations including the Orange County Psychological Association, California Latino Psychological Association, National Latina/o Psychological Association, American Psychological Association and the California Psychological Association.

Gallardo has been involved in the California Psychological Association for over 8 years, having served on its Board of Directors, Chair Publications Committee, Graduate Student Association, Publications Committee, Services and Benefits Committee and Diversity Taskforce, among others.

He’s presented at the American Psychological Association’s Annual conventions 11 times and in 2005 was awarded the APA’s Presidential Latina/o Leadership Citation for Early Career Psychologists. He was recently recognized in Who’s Who in America 60th edition.

Dr. Gallardo’s efforts and contributions to the field of psychology are exhaustive. He was the President of the California Latino Psychological Association and is currently working on a book entitled “Clinical Casebook of Multicultural Psychology: Implementation of Culturally Proficient Treatment Strategies.

Gallardo’s campaign platform included continued and improved benefits for members, increased public knowledge of psychological services, and prescriptive authority for psychologists. Alliant developed the nation's first Postdoctoral Master of Science Program in Clinical Psychopharmacology. Congratulations Dr. Gallardo!
