Alliant to Sign Memorandum of Understanding with Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District

Students to gain counseling, access to classes, and enrollment advantages

San Diego, Oct. 7, 2005 –On Tuesday, October 18, 2005, Grossmont and Cuyamaca Community College Presidents will join Alliant’s President Dr. Geoffrey Cox in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will define how the educational institutions will work together to provide educational opportunities that will ensure the transition of east county transfer students to Alliant International University. This is the third MOU Alliant has signed this year with local community colleges.

Alliant dignitaries who will attend the ceremony include Dr. Rodney Lowman, Interim Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Eric Gravenberg, Vice President, Center for Undergraduate Education; Dr. Linda Swanson, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education; Dr. Ali Abu-Rahma, Associate Dean, Business & Management Division, California School of Business & Organizational Studies; Ms. Susan Topham, Systemwide Director of Undergraduate Admissions and School Relations; Dr. Joe Marron, Systemwide Director of Educational Leadership: Policy and Practice; Dr. Bijan Massour, Systemwide Director of International Student Services and Ms. Tammy Landrum, Systemwide Director of Articulation.

Grossmont College dignitaries will include Dr. Ted Martinez Jr., President; Dr. Dean Colli, Vice President of Academic Affairs; Mr. Peter White, Vice President of Student Services; Mr. Jim Fenningham, Dean of Counseling and Matriculation; Ms. Bonnie Schmiege, Transfer Center Coordinator; and Ms. Janice Johnson, Articulation Officer. Dignitaries from Cuyamaca College will include Dr. Geraldine Perri, President; Dr. Cristina Chiriboga, Vice President of Instruction; and Dr. Teresa McNeil, Counselor and Articulation Officer.

The agreement will assure that eligible transfer students receive admission to Alliant. The MOU will also guarantee on-campus housing to transfer students, assist students with applying for financial aid and scholarships, and provide one-on-one academic advising to students up to graduation.

Grossmont College is located in east San Diego county. Grossmont is a comprehensive community college offering lower division courses and academic preparation which will permit students to transfer to any campus in the California State University and University of California systems, as well as to many private colleges and universities.  The College also offers relevant and up-to-date vocational programs to enable students to prepare for employment in the private and public sectors.

Since 1978, Cuyamaca College has provided a solid education to students, whether they are beginning their university degree at Cuyamaca, returning to school to launch a career or to acquire new skills or enrolling in an innovative occupational program. With 49 degree programs and 46 certificates offered at Cuyamaca College and over 8,000 students, learning opportunities abound under the tutelage of highly-qualified, dynamic instructors imbued with a love of teaching. Over the next ten years, students will benefit from much-needed new facilities as well as scheduled renovations, repairs and upgrading.
