CSPP's San Diego PhD Program in Clinical Psychology Earns Re-accreditation from the American Psychological Association
November 17, 2006 - San Diego -- The PhD Program in Clinical Psychology in San Diego, a program of the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), has received re-accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) for the five years. APA accreditation is prized and prestigious, and not all psychology programs can earn APA's approval. "The reaccreditation speaks well to the quality of the program and the considerable efforts of its faculty, staff and administrators," said Alliant Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rodney L. Lowman. "Congratulations to the Clinical Psychology PhD-San Diego faculty, Interim Dean Steven Bucky, PhD, and to all the staff and administrators who were involved in this successful outcome. Thanks to Drs. Adele Rabin and Don Viglione and Program Coordinator Judith Archuleta, who were instrumental in preparing the report to APA and managing the accreditation site visit." CSPP was founded under the auspices of the California Psychological Association, the state's professional association for psychology, in 1969. During its first year, the fledgling school was run by 250 dedicated volunteers and a mere handful of paid staff. At that time, the State of California was empowered to grant an accreditation, and thanks to the volunteers’ hard work, the school took off. Within six weeks, California granted CSPP the right to award degrees.
CSPP earned further accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1977. By the mid-1980s, it had four campuses: Fresno, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. By the mid-1980s, all four campuses earned APA accreditation.
