Celebration Includes Exhibits, Lectures, Theater and Awards

Mexico City – March 9, 2006 --  To mark its 35th anniversary, Alliant International University's Mexico City Campus will host a series of events that include art exhibits, a performance by Mexico's Deaf Theatre Sena y Verbo (photo at right), a series of presentations on globalization and international business, an event focused on Mexican politics, and celebrations that bring together alumni, faculty and students who have been associated with the campus over decades.

Alliant International University President Dr. Geoffrey Cox, who will be on site for the gala, said, "All of us at Alliant are especially proud of our Mexico City Campus. It's a cultural crossroads, a place where students, faculty and alumni from all over the world can come together to build cultural understanding. That will be very evident in the celebrations that mark this anniversary. It is the long and distinguished history of the Mexico City Campus that, more than any other single thing, makes us able to proudly claim 'international' as our middle name."

The 35th anniversary gala will begin mid-day, Monday March 20 with a series of artistic events and will continue into the evening with an inaugural reception entitled "The Coming Together of Nations, Cultures, Customs and International Culinary Delights." Sena y Verbo will perform at the reception.

Other highlights of the four-day celebration include Tuesday presentations by alumni on ethics in international business and the role of multinational corporations in the developing world. Wednesday's events include presentations by the International Renewable Resources Institute (IRRI) on international environmetal development, privatization of natural resources and a tour of a rain-water harvesting system. Evening presentations will explore African perspectives on diversity and development, human rights and discrimination.

Each day of the celebration is devoted to a theme:

  • Monday, March 20 - Internationalism: a Rainbow of Cultures
  • Tuesday, March 21 - Globalisation and Business: An Interdisciplinary View of the World
  • Wednesday, March 22 - From Developmental Needs to Global Concerns
  • Thursday, March 23 - Education, Resolving Today's Issues and Facing Tomorrow's Challenges

Located in the cosmopolitan heart of Mexico City, Alliant Mexico is distinguished by being the only university in Mexico authorized by law to offer all of its programs in English. Originally founded as United States International University in Mexico City, Alliant Mexico is also the only university in Mexico all of whose programs are accredited by an American accrediting agency.

Self-motivated and internationally oriented, Alliant Mexico students are drawn from around the world. During 2004-5, 20 percent of the student body came from the US, almost 40 percent from Mexico, approximately 20 percent from Europe, and roughly 20 percent from other Latin American countries, Asia and Africa.
