Geoffrey M. Cox, Ph.D. Named President of Alliant International University
Faculty, Staff & Students Approve of New Appointment  San Francisco, CA – July 12, 2005 – Alliant International University is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoffrey M. Cox, Ph.D. as president of the multi-campus school that prepares students for professional careers in the applied social sciences of psychology, education, business and related fields. Cox, 49, has served as interim president of the San Francisco-based independent university for the past year. He begins his tenure immediately. “We are pleased to have Dr. Cox as a permanent fixture in our learning community,” said Michael Rothman, Chairman of the Alliant Board of Trustees, who was among those who unanimously approved Cox’s interim appointment last year. “He has done a tremendous job leading us to create strategic plans and frameworks for moving forward. Cox, PhD, President of Alliant International University | As president of the accredited, professional practice university, Cox will continue to guide and oversee the development of educational programs at each of the California locations, including San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Los Angeles, Irvine and San Diego, as well as Alliant Universities in Mexico City, Mexico and a satellite location in Tokyo, Japan. Cox is also responsible for maintaining the positive momentum he set in motion during the last year, taking Alliant and its affiliate schools to the next level. “I am extremely honored to have the support and commitment of the board, faculty, staff and students to be named president of this university,” said Cox, who has a strong background in higher education and financial management at the university level. “Together we will accomplish many things. I look forward to the future and actively participating in the process of driving change.” Prior to joining Alliant in 2004 as interim president, Cox was President of Cardean University in Deerfield, Illinois, where he served as chief academic and operations officer for the online education company. He spent most of the 90s at Stanford University as Vice-Provost and Dean for Institutional Planning. Cox was previously the Director of Financial Planning and Budget and Associate Provost at the University of Chicago. He brings to Alliant a wealth of knowledge in finance, planning and the management of educational organizations. Cox earned his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago from the Department of Philosophy, and his undergraduate degree from Knox College.
Originally from Galesburg, Illinois, Cox lives near Palo Alto with his wife of 24 years Dr. Stephanie Kalfayan, who is Vice President for Academic Affairs at Stanford, and their two teenage daughters. When he’s not working, Cox enjoys cooking, reading and gardening.
