Alliant Brings Its Bachelor Degree Programs to Students at Southwestern College
 | | | December 15, 2006 — San Diego, CA --Students at Southwestern College, as well as those in Sweetwater High Schools and the Southbay community, will now find it even easier to finish bachelor’s degrees at Alliant International University. Thanks to an agreement between Southwestern and Alliant, qualified students of the two-year Chula Vista-based College can remain on Southwestern’s campus for their four year degrees, with Alliant offering the final two years of coursework on-site.
The “University within a college program” is the fulfillment of part of the “Alliance for Success” partnership between Alliant International University, Southwestern College and Sweetwater High School District formed in June 2006.
Alliant’s program will directly compliment Southwestern’s existing general education and core requirements and elective curricula, allowing students of the two-year community college to make a seamless transition into a bachelor’s degree program and ensuring timely graduation.
"This partnership provides expanded educational opportunities for the students, families, and communities of the South Bay region. It is a pathway for educational success, career, and lifelong fulfillment for the students who participate in this unique and exciting partnership,” said Dr. Eric Gravenberg, Vice President for Undergraduate Education for Alliant International University.
Alliant’s approach ensures that students will be ready to start their careers immediately upon graduation or after graduate-level study, giving them a competitive edge in the workforce.
The degree program will include a BA in Business Administration, International Business and Psychology. Alliant also offers a bachelor’s of Business Administration degree on-line.
Southwestern College and Alliant’s partnership also highlights and supports their shared values of internationalism and multiculturalism. Southwestern College is the third highest associate degree producer in the nation for Hispanic students. Alliant’s diverse student body is 27% international students and 26% Hispanic, making Hispanics Alliant’s largest minority. Southwestern students will see also their college’s multicultural mix of people mirrored by Alliant’s diverse faculty population.
Established in 1961, Southwestern College is one of 109 public community colleges in the state of California and is the only public institution of higher education located in the southern portion of San Diego County. Southwestern College employs over 1,200 faculty and staff and serves more than 18,000 students. Alliant International University has been developing a strong international and national network with esteemed and highly regarded educational institutions for the purpose of knowledge transfer and collaborative research which, they believe, play a major role in the modern educational system. Alliant found a perfect partner in Southwestern College, which has built a reputation for multicultural awareness and rigorous preparation for transfer to a four-year university. At a time when students are struggling to acquire the necessary resources for college admission, Alliant has found a way to bring those resources to the students. Through a simplified admissions process and near-seamless transition, students will be encouraged to seek out more education and higher levels of degrees, ultimately serving themselves, their families and their communities. Apply now for Spring 2007. Classes begin January 22, 2007. For more information contact Stephanie Musson at smusson@alliant.edu or (858) 635-4544.
