San Francisco, CA — August 2, 2005 — California School of Business and Organizational Studies (CSBOS) Professor Kathryn Goldman Schuyler has been invited to present two special sessions at the 100th Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association (ASA), which is being held August 13-16, 2005 in Philadelphia.
 | | Dr. Kathryn Goldman Schuyler | She is convening a special session on a topic closely related to the university’s longstanding mission of promoting cultural competence in all areas of the applied behavioral sciences. The session, which is entitled “Targeting, Race/Ethnicity, and Censuses: Past and Future,” brings together researchers from across the US who have studied the impact of censuses on three continents. Many citizens are not aware that governments have used census race and ethnicity data to target vulnerable population subgroups for human rights violations in the United States and elsewhere. The session will review this history, the complicity of social scientists in these events, and possible safeguards against such misuses, including the ASA’s Code of Ethics.
Dr. Goldman Schuyler will also lead a career development workshop on organizational consulting, in which she and a colleague will share their work on decision-making and leadership development. Dr. Goldman Schuyler is an expert who is happy to speak to the press about organizational change, including culture change, leadership, coaching, executive and personal development, stress management and meditation. The American Sociological Association (ASA), founded in 1905, is a non-profit membership association dedicated to advancing sociology as a scientific discipline and profession serving the public good. With nearly 14,000 members, ASA encompasses sociologists who are faculty members at colleges and universities, researchers, practitioners, and students. About 20 percent of the members work in government, business, or non-profit organizations.
