Lecture by Dr. Arturo Cherbowski to Explore Mexican Election and its Impact on US Immigration Issues

Mexican Political Consultant Views the Future

SAN DIEGO, CA – April 27, 2006 – Dr. Arturo Cherbowski, a well-known political analyst and consultant from Mexico, will lecture at Alliant International University in San Diego on Mexico's Labor Day -- the same day that many stateside Hispanics will protest the tough anti-immigration policies proposed by the US government by not working or buying anything. A general boycott of US products is being organized in Mexico for the same day.

“I realize how important – and symbolic - this day is for many Latinos, and I do hope that my talk will serve as a starting point for a serious dialogue about the issues which are important for both the US and Mexico,” says Dr. Cherbowski, who has served as an image and strategy consultant to Mexico’s major political parties and high-profile candidates.

“There is no doubt that immigration is surfacing as an important electoral issue in Mexico,” says Dr. Cherbowksi. “People want to know what each candidate is likely to be able to do about it.  The issue of legalizing undocumented workers is extremely important for Mexico, since it is one of the most important sources of income.”

Dr. Cherbowski’s May 1st lecture will focus on the importance of the upcoming Mexican presidential elections, the possible different scenarios that accompany its outcome, and expectations about the future of Mexico. According to Dr. Ilya Adler, Acting Director of Alliant’s the Center for International Studies, “these elections are crucially important, and certainly of high importance to San Diego and to California. There are three candidates with real possibilities of winning, and each represents a different future for the country.”

Because of his political consulting, Cherbowski is exceptionally well qualified to comment on immigration, the election, and Mexico's politics. He is available for media interviews in prior to or after the lecture.

Arturo Cherbowski is a senior partner and consultant with Portico Information and Analysis, Inc. Previously, he served as the Executive Director of Development for Business, Institutional, Corporate, and International Relations with Ibero On-Line, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Universidad Iberoamericana. He has taught at Autónomo de México (ITAM) and Yale University, where he was awarded the Yale Prize Teaching Fellowship and Sterling Prize Fellowship. Cherbowski, who holds a PhD in political science from Yale University, has been the Director of the International Relations department of Alliant International University in Mexico since 2004.

Dr. Cherbowski’s lecture will be given in Green Hall, on Alliant’s Scripps Ranch Campus on Monday, May 1st, 2006, beginning at 7 pm. It is free and open to the public. The university is located on 10455 Pomerado Road in San Diego.
