Alliant’s New Course Concentration in Marketing/Public Relations Major Gives Students Hands-On Publishing Experience

 April 21, 2008
 San Diego, CA

The newly-formed Envoy Publishing International (EPI),  held a press party on April 9th to launch the formation of Envoy Publishing International, the first issue of the Envoy Magazine, Visiting San Diego, and a newly developed website. The first issue of the new Envoy Magazine debuted at the launch party.

With the formation of EPI, the undergraduate Marketing Public Relations (MPR) program at Alliant now offers a concentration in publishing. This concentration gives students hands-on experience in all steps of the publishing process: from story pitches to final print.

EPI gives students hands-on publishing experience by producing books; the Envoy, Alliant’s system-wide, student-produced magazine; and Visiting San Diego, a trade magazine that willbe placed in local tourist destinations. In addition, students who are completing the concentration in publishing will learn about web publishing through the EPI website.

The Envoy, Alliant's student newspaper, has for years served as the voice of Alliant students. There are changes on the horizon for the student-produced publication, the Envoy. Yhe change will be switching formats to a magazine, which will be launched in April. The magazine will feature sections and writers representing multiple Alliant campuses and be a system-wide outlet for students to voice their views.

The Envoy newspaper was started by students at United States International University (USIU) more than 20 years ago, and the paper continued publishing student-written news after the merger with the California School of Professional Psychology that formed Alliant in 2001. EPI looks forward to continuing the newspaper’s legacy by representing Alliant International University’s growing system-wide student body.
