US News and World Report Ranks Alliant #1 for Percentage of International Students
Systemwide – April 20, 2007 – In the “America’s Best Colleges 2007” ranking recently released by US News and World Report, Alliant International University was ranked first among universities in the US for its percentage of international students, while it rated tenth in campus ethnic diversity. Alliant’s student body is made of 27% international students, 5% more than second-ranked New York University. NYU's percentage of international students is 22% while third-rated Illinois Institute of Technology has 16%. This is a repeat ranking for Alliant, as it enjoyed the number one ranking for percentage of international students in US News and World Report's 2005 rankings. Alliant was also acknowledged for its diverse student body. In a ranking of 200 universities, based on campus ethnic diversity, Alliant ranked tenth. Of the top 17 universities, Alliant was the only university whose largest minority was Hispanic (26%), and not Asian-American or African-American. Overall, Alliant was ranked as one of the “Best National Universities,” a list that includes a mere 248 learning institutions. It was also ranked fourth for having the "Highest Proportion of Classes Under 20" (86%). The 2007 rankings are based on data from the 2005-2006 school year. US News and World Report derives its diversity index by calculating the percentages of Native Americans, Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders, African-Americans who are non-Hispanic, whites who are non-Hispanic, and Hispanics.
