Additional Information:

Dr. Smith has clinical experience in working with same-sex couples, though his main professional activities currently focus on researching ways that discrimination and stigma affect the mental and behavioral health of LGBT individuals. Dr. Smith is familiar with a wide range of LGBT research findings, having completed a content analysis of over 100 research articles in applied psychology journals for the years 1990-1999. In addition, he has published original research examining the effect of anti-gay discrimination in the workplace on LGBT employees. He is currently working on developing a group therapy intervention for young gay and bisexual men to reduce their risk of HIV transmission. In addition to his clinical and research expertise, Dr. Smith served for a year in the U.S. Senate working on HIV and mental health legislation.
